Fox Newsreports that a new review of some medical literature hints that Massage therapy may help relieve symptoms of depression. Now in the findings the authors acknowledge that it's impossible to "blind" study participants or care providers however, they report there is "good evidence to suggest that massage therapy is an effective treatment of depression."
We all know that depression is at a pandemic proportions and mind altering drugs are being passed out like candy at Halloween. Unfortunately, the "cure" is some times even worse then the "pain".
People are looking for alternative ways to relieve depression like symptoms, aren't they? Now we are not saying it will "cure" depression. That would be irresponsible on our part. Even the Fox report said that:
"While massage can ease stress and tension and may have emotional benefits, the use of massage therapy in depressed patients is "controversial," the investigators note, and "there is no qualitative review of the treatment effect of massage therapy in depressed patients."
That is why this research took place. They dug through the archives and found 17 studies including 786 people that suffered from depression. Massage therapy was compared to other alternative treatments like Chinese herbs, relaxation exercises, rest, and a "non treatment" control group.
What did they find? The article goes on to say:
"Overall, the studies, which were of "moderate" quality, showed that massage therapy had "potentially significant effects" in alleviating symptoms of depression, the researchers report in the American Journal of Psychiatry."
